Still running quite bad

I am still running quite bad. Loosing a lot of hands while being a favourite is frustrating. However, I do see my game is ok. I have analysed a bunch of hands, which I find I played well (a few exceptions), but remain unlucky. Not a lot to do about it, but I reckon it will improve. I guess I am down about 1,5K for the month. Still no problem there.

However, it is very frustrating that the majority of 70-30 hands get lost and I cant seem to win any flips. AK against 77 or QQ against AK. I even cant seem to win any big hands when being well ahead, AK against AQ for example...

Not to many other things to say. I wanted to play the WCOOP, but was unable to qualify. Always nice when my QQ get cracked by TT on the bubble.

One funny thing though. Yesterday I qualified for a $55 rebuy (yes I even think for these events qualifiers are +EV). However, my girlfriend said we had to visit her parents who were nearby. Tournament started at 9 and we had to leave at 9:10. So I went all-in every hand. I even told the other players what hand I had. I won the first three because everybody folded. Then I lost a hand with QKo against AKo and had 260 left. Then I won an all-in with 82o against three other players. After that I won another all-in with 63o against AQo. Lol. With 3K in stack I had to leave though :(.

Luckily I am no cameleon...

Edit: Just won a $215 ticket to the Sunday Warmup through the $3 crapshoot turbo rebuy. Is it a sign or a bump in the road downhill?

Some live play

Yesterday I played some live poker for the first time in a long time. It was a nice break from the regular internet stuff. Especially after the loosing streak lately. We played 6-handed 50NL, which is nice and not to much money.

The people:
5 people I never met and only spoke briefly to, through MSN. They all said they had some experience playing the internet. Two people got a ban from the Holland Casino. Lol. Can't think of the reason, though. Three people worked together at Robeco, one friend, one unknown and me.

The game:
Pretty loose if you ask me. Calling an all-in with Top pair, no kicker was fun.

Had a good time. Good to know the bad beats continue in real life as well.

I started pretty well, picking up a few pots and was up to about 70 euro quite rappidly. Won a hand with 55 after a c-bet, AK with a King on the flop and KQ with a King on the flop.

Then I found 99 in the small blind. UTG min-raised to 1 euro and two callers and I decided to call as well, as did the big blind. Flop came A95cc and I was first to act, planning to check raise. However, it was checked around. Turn was a Queen, bringing no additional draws. So I bet 2 euro in a 2,50 pot. The big blind raises to 4 euro and everybody else folds. I repop it to 14 euro and he calls. River brings another queen, completing my full house, nines over queens. I check, he pushes for 19 euro and i can only call. I figured AQ was unlikely, because he would have reraised preflop. Q9 was not likely because of my hand. Figured he had somehting like QKcc. However, he showed Q5 for a better boat.

That left me with about 30 euro. Did not find a hand for a long time untill I woke up in the big blind with the monster of all monsters: 94o. It was minraised again and four people paid to see the flop, so I decided to put in the extra 50 cent. Flop came 924cc. This gave me top two pair. Small blind checked and I checked as well, and it was checked around again. Turn was a 8d and I bet 2 euro, which only the small blind called. River was a 9, completing my full house. Small blind bet 3 euro and I reraised to 12 euro. The small blind called after some thought and he showed, 92o for a lower full house. Have to say the small blind was very unfortunate during the whole game. He lost about 125 euro.

After that not a lot happened. Concluded with a 10 euro loss, which was fine for a pleasant evening.

Running very bad

Currently running very bad. Just have to post some hands, although this blog is not about those beats. I lost about ten 80-20 situations for a substantial amount. Very, very frustrating.

Just some beats:
- QAs against QKs preflop all-in.

77 against AKo, where villain calls on the turn and hits an ace with only overcards.

Tournament day

Just did some tournaments today. Went pretty well, although no major, major results.

This one was pretty frustrating. Did a $27 double shootout on Stars for a $1,050 ticket and finished 2nd for a mere $84 while the no.1 got the ticket. Had a chiplead in the headsup but lost AT against JJ and A8 against A9. To bad.

I did a subsatellite for the Master Classics in Amsterdam. $15 rebuy. Just before the brake 11 people were left and I lost an all-in and somehow I auto-rebuyed. So I had 1,500 with 4,5K average. Somehow I pulled it off with one rebuy. $215 ticket.

I also did a 3,5K $22 buyin on Titan and finished fifth out of 200+. Lost a crucial pot with TT and was severely crippled. Banked about $250.

First play...

When returning from Mexico I dove back into the pokergame. However, first I had to write another article for pokernews. It is about Out of Position play. It makes good reading.

So far I played a few tournaments. I played the worldchallenge qualifier on Titan for the forth time. Entrance fee is only $5,50 but you qualify if you are in top 30 of one region. So far I played 4 of about 11 qualifiers and all 4 I was on the final table... Average about 70 entrants, soq uite good. This means I will qualify with only two more tournaments to go I am rank 3rd while top 30 qualifies. Unofrtunately this is the only tournament that goes well. Others I have cashed a small amount or got out before the money.

On the contrary cash is going quite well. 4 buyins up in 4K hands on 200NL. Some nice hands:

The following hand is really about thinking one level deeper than the opponent. I flatcall a reraise out of position with KK and hit top set. However, there is a flushdraw on the board. Villain is quite aggressive and 44 is really in his range. I check the flop to the initial raiser and he pushes all-in. Unfortunately for him, he represents the hand I have.

I reraise the next hand and he calls in position. Looking at his stats he is not overly aggressive and pretty tight. He insta calls my bet on a JTT flop. When I check the turn he bets almost potsize. The turn brought a blank, but gave a possible flushdraw. There are not to many hands that I beat here. I do not see this player calling a preflop reraise with AJ, so his range is TT+ and AKo and AKs, even though AK is doubtfull. When running this range through pokerstove I win 45% and he wins 55%. Do not think I can profitably push here. Only if his range is TT+, AJs+, KQs, AKo or even wider, I can make a profitable push (call is not an option I think). A player with these stats and what I have seen from him, I find it unlikely.

Pretty interesing hand I was not involved in, although I got good odds for calling preflop. UTG raises and four people call. The flop provides a flush draw. The push vukicev makes is horrendous in my opinion, although he has the nut flush draw. Four people still have to make a decission of which one has shown considerable strength by betting out against 4 villains. I do not think this a good play. Anyone agrees? I think he may better call the raise...

Back

Did those 14 days of lying in the sun, ordering cocktails, eat lots of good food, hanging around with my girlfriend, swimming in the sea flew by, or what?! Vacation was a bomb. We stayed at this luxury resort near Cancun, Mexico which was all it promissed to be, and more. It was nice. I just got back this morning. Landing at Schiphol at 6am. I will see if I can get some pictures up later.

During my holiday: zero poker playing. I did catch up on some reading though. In the meantime I also got a nice sidejob, meaning I will now regularly write articles for Pokernews, both the site and the magazine. This is something I am quite excited about. I like to write these kind of articles.

I just came back so, no news on the pokerfront. I am catching up on reading some blogs, bad beat stories, postings, ept results etcetera. The WCOOP started, so I am still trying to qualify. Tournaments remain infected with bad luck, but after the holiday things might go a bit better. On Titan they are hosting a ECOOP series in December. Lots of time to qualify, so I will give that a shot as well. Obviously 200NL cashgames, and beating them is another nice pokergoal.

Will be back later with an update.
